We've had a lovely...

...summery week here in the Creston Valley, and that made it perfect for an hour's leisurely drive up Kootenay Lake to Barefoot Handweaving in Crawford Bay to take the embroidery basket to Janet Wallace, the owner.

It was a joy to see all the colour there (do check out their website on the link above) and to be gifted with some more mouth-watering embroidery threads.  Will there be more basket making?  With this lovely batch of threads I suspect so.

We stopped for lunch in Crawford Bay at Black Salt Cafe where we enjoyed the fabulous open air seating, an extraordinary panini, and ogled their desserts.

In the studio, I'm working on another, larger collage and using a heavy equipment book as a weight.  The title alone should ensure it seals the seam, don't you think?

And for the first time ever I had a fail with the plastic wrap technique I was using to ameliorate the hot pink on Chloe's painting.  What should have been an easy peel off was a sticky mess.  I've always told my students that 90% of creating is solving problems, and this is one HUGE example of that!  I've been doing some sanding on it, but I'm not sure it's going to be enough.  Keep your fingers crossed for me, please.  And if you've ever had this happen, I'd love to hear your solve.

I did manage to do some stamping for names to accompany a crowd of unicorns, and there's another phrase I've never needed to use before.  😎

How's your week gone?  And just a note - if you don't hear from me next week, it's because the two days my computer is supposed to be in the shop for a fix has turned into something longer (and no doubt more expensive).  Happy weekend and more to you - may the weather in your area be sunny and light!

  1. I am curious what you are planning for all those threads.

    1. The threads often wind up (waxed) as sewn signatures, or decorate cards/tags/paintings, turn into decorative nests or bowls, or even be used as embroidery threads when that urge hits me.

  2. I am loving the colours of those threads they are lush. Looks like you had a good day out too and Panini, scrummy! It's interesting that you had the problem with the plastic wrap as this happened to me too some time ago, the only time it happened and I had done the technique loads of times without a problem. Sadly I cannot say how to remove it as I left it on (a journal page) always planning to go back and do something with it but still haven't and that's years ago when it happened. I had thought of going over it with Gesso and then adding colour. The weather here has been sunny today but very windy which is quite strange for this time of the year more like March really. I must go now so take care and good luck with the computer. Hugs Angela xXx

    1. Aren't they gorgeous, Angela? And yes, the day out was lovely. Sorry to hear that you don't have a fix for the plastic wrap - I was quite astounded by what happened!! We are vacillating with the weather, too, and one never knows if it will be raining, hailing (like last night) or broiling in the sun. It keeps us on our toes! ;-) Big hugs, my friend!!

  3. Talk about schizophrenic weather. We went from 40* last week to 90* this week.
I expect great things from that pile of threads. And I'm glad you stop once in awhile for lunch.
A heavy book will insure a secure seam OR a stuck book.. lol
Win I have never a ameliorated anything, so sorry I can't help you.
    Your unicorn is gorgeous.
Speaking of fixing computers. Our router went out Tuesday night. So no blog, no phone and no TV. Thanks to my clever husband, and Amazon's 5 hour delivery. He had it fixed by the time a woke up Wed.. We are so blessed.
Best wishes and hugs from me to you my friend. And wishing you a great cure for your stuck plastic. Deann

    1. Same here with the weather, Deann (see above comment), but going from 40-90 is crazy!!

Stopping for lunch is pure delight when one is up the lake; it's a rare treat!

And luckily, ther was no sticking to the book, and thank goodness for that.

Holy smokes - a overnight fix on your router is mind-boggling. I'd like to borrow your husband next time my computer goes on the fritz!! Sending you all the best, my friend, along with a load of virtual hugs. xo

  4. Ooh, I can't wait to see what you do with that rainbow of thread. Endless possibilities.
I've not had a plastic wrap fail, but they say that we become more creative when we have to solve problems, so I'm sure you'll 'Win' it and it will turn out fabulously :)

    1. If nothing else, I can just drool over the thread - the colours just make me so happy. And Problem Solver is my middle name, so life is good one way or another.

  5. Wow, those embroidery threads look beautiful and like they want to be turned into a work of art.
I'm glad you had a great time, John looks so happy!
I won't be able to help you with your sticky attempts as I've never used any of the techniques you mention, but I can keep my fingers crossed that everything goes well. And I will, as soon as I've finished typing on my keyboard with both hands. Hahaha!
I love your alphabet stamps with their western typography.
It's sunny and warm here today for the first time this year. It looks like we're going straight into summer without passing through spring.
    Hugs my dear friend!

  6. We had a lovely time up the lake! And thanks for keeping your fingers crossed re the plastic wrap; all help gratefully received. :-)

Those little stamps are great fun, aren't they? And when one tapes them all together, they are relatively easy to use.

Glad to hear you've got some sunshine, even if you missed the spring weather...wishing you much more of that, and sending some Canadian hugs to go along with it. xo
